The Las Vegas Hilton - September 28 & 29, 2007

Western Open Tournament Room

GTLRC Western Open Trophy

3,000 qualifiers. 500 players. 2500 miles. Hundreds of thousands of games played. That's the bottom line when you look back at the Golden Tee LIVE Regional Championships. And as the tournament team from Incredible Technologies prepared to conduct the final leg of the championship, they found themselves in the ballroom of the Las Vegas Hilton with nearly 200 enthusiastic players all ready for their chance to compete on the big stage.

It was time for the Western Open to begin.

They say that all good things must come to an end, but the players who traveled out to the City of Sin made sure the Regionals didn't go out quietly! Players from all over the West as well as from Canada and England crammed the Hilton for their last chance to experience a full weekend of Golden Tee.

And with over $25,000 on the line the anticipation was high!

MAKING A NAME IN THE PUB CHAMPIONSHIP

Pub Champ Trophy and Check

The main event may be the big draw but there is nothing like the Pub Championship.

The PC is a mixture of skill, luck and excitement. Players and spectators cheer every shot like there's money on it. And, in fact there is. With $1,000 going to the winner, every shot matters. It's a chance for any player to rise to the top, or in some cases, escape the shadow of others.

When it comes to Golden Tee in Wichita, KS there is only one name that comes to mind - until now.

While Former Team USA member and Western Open champion Danny Beall still remains one of the best, his disciples from The Boulevard Pub are showing that they can play too. And the Western Pub Championship was their official coming-out party.

A total of 98 players participated in the closest-to-the-pin event, with everyone from seasoned pros to lucky hopefuls all trying for the coveted Pub Championship Pewter Tankard. For Brandon Bell and Dan Matthew this was a chance to come out of Beall's shadow. Both were introduced to Golden Tee via Beall and while their mentor fell victim in the first round, the pair tore through their bracket to force a Wichita playoff in the elite eight. Matthew stuck it close but Bell was just a bit closer and moved on to the final four.

Waiting there for him were three men who had survived the upset-laden tournament - Canada's Enzo Polidori, playing out of Sharky's in Ontario, Clay Heneise from Lamppost Pizza in Fountain Valley, CA and Rishi Puri from R Bar in Renton, WA.

Pub Champ Trophy

The field was whittled down to two when Polidori took out Heneise and Bell beat Puri by a mere four inches. In the third place match Puri just managed to beat Heneise by a few feet to take home $250 for third. Heneise pocketed $100 for fourth.

Facing a very tough setup on hole #17 of Indigo Mound, Bell found a way to stick his shot an astounding 3.84 feet away from the pin. Even a World Team captain like Polidori couldn't find a way to top that leaving Bell as the Western Open Pub Champion!

"I'm really happy right now," Bell commented while holding his new trophy. "Everyone knows Danny – and some people look at me and actually think I'm Danny. All I know is this is probably my third tournament ever and I'm finally up there [with the best]."

Bell also pocketed some extra cash for himself and his pub thanks to the Pub Pride Bonus! Along with the trophy and $1,000 check, Bell took home an extra $200 for himself, $400 for his bar The Boulevard and $400 for his operator Caro Amusements all because Bell was sporting his pub's official shirt.
