On September 12-13, the Las Vegas Hilton hosted the largest Golden Tee tournament in history! With players and representatives from the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and South Korea, the '08 Worlds was the ultimate celebration of individual competition and team camaraderie.
After a few words of welcome from IT's president and CEO Elaine Hodgson, VP of product development and co-creator of Golden Tee Larry
Hodgson, kicked off the weekend by unveiling "Old '89" the first Golden Tee cabinet ever created back in 1989.
Old '89 was center stage in the tournament room with IT's sleek new 2009 pedestal cabinet. Players had the rare opportunity to play the game as it originally was created as well as the latest and greatest edition.
Team competition took center stage Friday night with twenty-four of Golden Tee's elite from around the world dueling it out in the traditional Team USA vs. World Team showdown.
With the upcoming Ryder Cup only days away, the world's best video golfers put on a show of there own. "The timing couldn't have been
better," said marketing director and tournament emcee Gary Colabuono. "Team USA has had their problems lately in the Ryder Cup, but
the Americans did their country proud at the GT Worlds!"
As for the individual competition, the field of 350 players was by far the largest Golden Tee tournament in history. Never has a room been filled with so many talented and dedicated players.
"Coming in we wanted this event to be something bigger than anything we had done in years past," said Colabuono. "To see 50 machines and 350 players all in one room is something that none of us will ever forget!"
The 2008 Golden Tee World Championship was two days of fun, brotherhood and competition. Congratulations to Team USA for winning the Cup outright this year and congrats to Andy Haas for besting the largest and deepest field in history.
Thanks everyone for making this a weekend to remember. Now let's see what we can do to make 2009 even bigger and better!
