A Golden Blog

In the Never Ending Search To Become a Better Player, Erik Nelson and His Blog, Goldenteefan.com, Have Become A Resource For the Golden Tee Community

GTfan_logoErik Nelson's problem has become every player's solution.

Like many new players, when Nelson first caught the Golden Tee bug last August he was obsessed with improving his game. The Buffalo Wild Wings in Peoria, IL was his second home as almost every night was spent trying new tricks and working on lowering his score. He even got to that point in a player's life when his wife became concerned.

But despite all his hard work, he couldn't escape his frustration. Day in and day out, scores of -24 and -28 would scroll across the screen during his game and he couldn't even imagine how players were doing that. What did they know that he didn't?

Addicted and starving for information, Nelson went in search for tips. Problem was, Peoria isn't exactly the Golden Tee Mecca of the world, so playing with a superior player wasn't an option. And being a complete neophyte to the Golden Tee experience, he was unaware of the forums on Goldentee.com and Underdogsports.

So Nelson decided to take matters into his own hands and create a blog where he could hopefully voice his opinions and get the help he so desperately desired. Little did he know Goldenteefan.com would grow to be one of the greatest resources for Golden Tee players on the web.

"Initially, the site was supposed to be for people like me who are OK at the game and trying to improve," said Nelson. "I thought I could help other people out. It kind of grew from there."

What started out as a simple tip board has turned into a full-fledged encyclopedia of Golden Tee knowledge where every aspect of the game is broken down. Players who visit the blog can get everything from tips, to opinions on the hardest holes, to complete breakdowns of each course in 2008.

Players can even find other players with the site's Player Locator - which features hundreds of players from 31 states and three countries. It's all the information any Golden Tee player could ever need to better their game - now in one location.

"It feels great getting 2-4 e-mails a day with names that want to be added to the Player Locator," said Nelson. "Or seeing players comment on what I wrote and discussing the game. I've started getting a lot of e-mails from players saying how much my site has improved their game. That's what the site is intended to do."

Even Steven Sobe can't get enough of the site.

“It’s clear that Erik is a huge fan who loves the game,” said Sobe. “Maybe I’ll make a road trip down to Peoria one of these days!”

And don't expect Goldenteefan.com's information to become stale anytime soon. Despite working as a computer analyst for Caterpillar, Nelson scours the forums on a daily basis to find new and interesting topics. Plus, Nelson is still improving his game along the way too. Remember, that was his goal from the start. So whenever he learns something new, fans of his blog won't be far behind.

"I see it growing and growing," commented Nelson. "There's so much information out there on the forums and with the Sobe Tips and Breakdowns on Goldentee.com. This site just coordinates everything in one place. And no matter what your skill level, there's something to help you."
