A Bub's Blowout!

Sobe Takes Down a Dozen of Wisconsin's Best at Beat the Champ Event

Beat_the_champ_logoWisconsin threw it's best at him… and Steven Sobe trounced them all!

The Sobe Express pulled into Germantown fresh off a brief appearance at Ole's in Oconomowoc earlier in the day. Duffer Dan, SeanO and Sobe had just given away a brand-new Harley won by a local woman whose name was chosen from a million and a half entries in the monthly Silver Strike Bowling sweepstakes. So while they were up there they had to stop at Wisconsin's best Golden Tee bar, Bub's Irish Pub - located just west of Milwaukee on Thursday evening, February 28.

Of course, there's no rest for Sobe as a dozen of Wisconsin's top players were waiting for him. Each of them wanting a shot at the three-time national champion. And all of them wanting to uphold the pride of their state.

Bubs_logoBut the world's largest Irish pub was turned into the world's largest Golden Tee graveyard as Sobe shutout the state with an impressive 12-0 performance - the first time Sobe has ever beaten all 12 opponents in a Beat the Champ event!

For those who haven't experienced it, Beat the Champ is the hottest Golden Tee sensation in the country - with locations in almost every state clamoring for Sobe to Bubsmake a stop. The format is simple - 12 competitors, four machines and one champion playing a round against all of them at the same time!

You think 12-against-1 is unfair for Sobe? Think again! For two hours Thursday Sobe was the Million Dollar Man - running back and forth from machine to machine wreaking havoc on the courses and completely devastating the field. By the time it was over, the entire room was left in utter disbelief.

"It turns out he's pretty good," commented a dejected and defeated Jason Reeder, who knocked off World Champion Jeff Harlow at the Player's Charity Championship II.

You think? He didn't get his "three-time national champion" title by accident. In fact, with how hot Sobe's been playing nothing short of perfection can stop him. On one of the four machines, Sobe was -20 through 13 holes… with a water ball!

It's not like Wisconsin didn't have its chances though.

SobeReeder of Germantown and veteran Golden Tee player turned self-proclaimed BAGS world champion Kirk "Stimpjuice" Stimpert of Germantown were tied with Sobe at -19 going into Hole 18 of Bayou Bay. But those chances drowned when both found the blackwater of the bayou and Sobe hit the green.

With 11 players eliminated, only one man stood between Sobe and perfection. The grizzled veteran. The man LIVE Technologies' David Crawford labeled the "Great White Hope." Crawford's partner, Dan Miser.

"Someone has to stop him," commented Miser midway through his round with Sobe. "I like my chances."

Miser, of Oconomowoc, was down a single stroke going into Hole 17 of Summit Lakes, when Sobe slipped up. But Miser couldn't capitalize as he was left in the dust just like the rest as Sobe moved his Beat the Champ record to an astounding 29-7!

"Everybody played well," said Sobe. "But I'm really on a hot streak. I mean I can't believe I went 12-0. I can't wait for the next Beat the Champ!"
