As preparations are made for the 2008 Golden Tee World Championship, Incredible Technologies sent shockwaves through the GT player community by announcing that 32 players will now compete for the coveted 8 remaining spots in the head-to-head field.
Originally the 12 members of the World Team and the 12 Team USA members were to be joined by the top 8 qualifiers from Saturday’s preliminary qualifying round. These 32 players would then square off for the world champion title. With this change the cut line will now increase from 8 to 32 – with the 32 qualifiers playing off to earn the final 8 spots.
"The 8 players who win 2 games will join the World and U.S. team members in the title bracket," said Gary Colabuono, IT’s marketing director. "The players asked us to reconsider the cut line – that it was just too low for a potential field of 400. Even though it will add an hour to an already tight schedule, we think it’s worth it. This new higher cut line will add an enormous amount of excitement."
Colabuono reaffirmed that the World Championship field will be capped at 400, and this new announcement is sure to make qualifying and registering quickly a top priority.
"We can only accommodate 400 players in the room we have booked at the Hilton and no additional space is available," he said. "When online qualifying kicks off July 1, I encourage everyone to get their 50 games in as soon as possible and to register immediately. We’re going to have a full field and some stragglers may get shut out."
