Fan Favorite Garners Nearly Half of All Design-a-Hole Votes


Dave Hollingshead's The Falls It was a two-horse race to the wire and when the final vote was tallied Dave Hollingshead's entry was named the winner of the first Golden Tee Design-a-Hole contest. Hollingshead's entry, The Falls, was named on nearly 44% of all the ballots cast.

"We never expected that over 20,000 votes would be cast in this promotion," said Duffer Dan Schrementi, IT's marketing manager. "Obviously the opportunity to be a part of Golden Tee history was a huge motivator."

In a rather unusual twist, Hollingshead of St. Charles MO contacted IT early on Thursday and requested that since it appeared that he would win, that IT should also name second-place finisher, Bert Loftus of Nashville, a winner. He pointed out that Loftus had worked very hard on his design – Frog's Pond – and deserved to be recognized for his effort.

"This is the kind of spirit of camaraderie that we see all the time in the Golden Tee community," Schrementi said. "It would be cool to have two winners, but we can't honor his request. We want this design, this hole, to stand out and be recognized. We also don't think it would be fair to the fans who voted for him. We understand where he's coming from though and it was a very nice gesture."

The Falls is a mountainous par 4 (or 5) that features a cascading waterfall that flows over the green. Hollingshead cleverly created a safe way to the green and a risk/reward shortcut as well. It hasn't been determined which of the five new 2009 courses will feature the hole.
