Promo Nation and Club Lucky are currently well into contests that will determine the final roster spots for this year's Team USA squad.
The two players who prevail will join current World Champion and Team USA captain Graig Kinzler, along with the 9 other players who qualified at last year's Regional tournaments.
Promo Nation's "Team USA" contest is awarding their spot to the player who makes the most birdies or better from June 1st to July 31st. This means that all birdies, eagles, double eagles, and holes-in-one all count the same towards the total.
Thus far the contest has been decidedly one sided, as Minnesota's Chris Thorbrogger has dominated throughout. As of July 10th he had a jaw-dropping 16,240 birdies or better with still a few weeks left to go, while also accumulating over 19 million great shot points in the process!
Far back in second is Rodney Collins from Dallas, Texas sitting second with a total of 14,142, while Andy Fox from Minnesota has control of third with a total of 13,741.
Now that's a lot of birdies (or better).
The other contest is Club Lucky's "One is the Luckiest," looking for the best 100 game average score from April 28th to July 27th. This figures to come down all the way to the final week.
As of July 16th, Illinois' Brian Bernhardt was on top with a hundred game average of -27.79, while Riley Hitchcock from Orlando was not far behind with a –27.43 average. Expect scores to dip even lower with a few weeks left to go.
Will the GT notables "Thor" and "Bernzy" hold onto their lead? There's still plenty of time for other hopefuls to go on birdie frenzies and score as low as they can. By the end of July the '08 Team USA will be complete and be gearing up for the September showdown vs. the World Team.
