Duffer Dan Sheds Some Light on the Amazing Trip Thus Far

ship

Adam here,

While Duffer Dan was forced to sign off from his blogging duties, he managed to check in with us yesterday. He'll have plenty more to say and lots to show when he and the rest of the crew get back. Until then, here's a little update from the man himself.

"Things are going very well. We’re living like sailors and we’re entrenched in their life. It’s quite cool. The ship is huge, so huge that I can’t even describe. But our video will do the talking. Traversing the halls and learning that system is nearly impossible. We’ve learned to get to the hangar bay – then to the officer’s wardroom. That’s about it! Anywhere else we need LT Mike Hall or someone to help us.

As far as the game install goes, it went well. There were some hiccups, but we got it going. The navy welded custom brackets to hold it together; it’s a hell of a site. We shot video of them creating it in the metal shop. It was very cool.

The game is so popular so far that the Fun Boss has created tee time sheets to schedule play. Cool stuff. We’ve got it on camera. Hell, we’ve got everything on camera! We’ve filled up like 6 tapes so far, taken hundreds of shots. I am happy to report that Sobe has been very busy sharing his wisdom to all.

Today we filmed in Combat Ops, Flight Ops, Deck, the bridge, the bakery (they gave me a cookie!), engine rooms, etc. Tomorrow we’ll shoot weapons, maybe more. We also did a feature on the Fire Marshal. He is the resident golf coach and club maker. It was a great interview. All about life in the Navy and how golf makes him feel like home. This is the type of footage we’ve been looking for.

I wish everyone could get a chance to see this life on a ship, at least for a day. These men and women make a HUGE sacrifice. Simply huge. I can’t say I’ve ever done anything like that; I’m really in awe. They are here to protect the US – eat, sleep, work. Well, and now play some Golden Tee.

Hope everything is going well at home. Take care – and Go Golden Tee!"
