Sobe Tips: Playing CTTP LIVE

No Need for Sobe Safe, Go at Each Pin with Everything You've Got!

CTTP LIVEPut your 18-hole strategy aside, this my friends is Closest-to-the-Pin LIVE! Forget blowup holes, chipping, putting, and Chushes - the name of the game is to get your shot close to, or better yet, into cup with one of your nine tee shots.

While the premise appears simple, there is still plenty of strategy involved and a method to the madness.

Be the closest to the hole, and you have a chance at winning fifty bucks! There is money to be made, and even the casual players can hit it big playing CTTP!

By now I'm sure you've tried it out, but if you're new to CTTP, here are a few pointers to get you going in the right direction.

Avoid club sets with large gaps

The key item here is consistency. You want to choose a club set that doesn't have large gaps of yardage between clubs and sets up favorably for any type of hole. In some cases you won't be able to get near the hole without a brilliant shot simply because your clubs didn't set up appropriately. The new/old hybrids or even stock clubs are ideal sets, because the gaps of yardage between clubs are more consistent all the way through.

Go for the gusto

Out of 450 shot attempts in a Closest-to-the-Pin contest, it's very likely that a hole-in-one is going to be hit. So if you want to win a share of or all of the prize pool, your mentality needs to be geared towards making a hole-in-one.

Without seeing the setup of a hole it's really hard to say what kind of shot is appropriate, but the overall approach should be similar. You should look to maximize the ability to spin the ball in both directions, because the key is getting the ball moving towards the cup. The theory is if you roll it by the hole enough times, your shots will start to fall.

Don't worry about ending up in the bunker or the water. Total distance doesn't count as a tie breaker in the game. You have nine chances - miss the green eight times, put one in the cup, and you’re a winner. It only takes one good (or lucky) shot to win. So go for it!

HoleHere's an example

On the right is a par-3 that would be approached much differently when playing a normal round of Golden Tee versus CTTP. If playing in a regular 18-hole LIVE contest, this green would likely be approached with backspin in hope of leaving a short makeable putt. The biggest thing would be to avoid the water and the drop behind and on the left.

In CTTP LIVE, you have a better opportunity to ace this hole without using backspin. It doesn't matter if your ball rolls through the green and in the hazard. It's crucial that you give yourself the chance.

Throw Sobe Safe out the window in Closest-to-the-Pin LIVE - to get that ace you have to go right at it. Play aggressive and sure enough your shots will fall, and perhaps you'll get that elusive fifty-dollar HIO in the process!
