Backspin / Roll

The BACKSPIN button was introduced to Golden Tee Golf in 2000 during the launch of Golden Tee Fore!. While backspin remains an important feature in Golden Tee LIVE, this game-saving button now has the ability to apply forward ROLL as well! Here's how it works:

To apply Backspin
  • Simply press the SPIN button once prior to beginning your swing to apply backwards spin on the ball.
  • Note, a red arrow will point upward on the ball when Backspin is applied.
  • Swing and watch your ball "back up" when it lands on the green. Please note that one can get backspin when landing in the fairway too…though the effect is very slight.

To apply Roll
  • Press the SPIN button twice prior to beginning your swing to apply forward roll on the ball.
  • Note, a red arrow will point downward on the ball when forward Roll is applied.
  • Contrary to Backspin, Roll will cause the ball to kick forward and give you extra distance on fairways and greens.

Backspin was originally introduced in 1995 on Golden Tee 3D Golf without a button! Players had to use trackball speed to apply this feature where the harder a shot was hit, the more significant the backspin was.
Make sure you utilize the new forward Roll feature as it has a variety of advantages. You can even use it to your advantage on certain chip shots!
How to Chip
Just like in real golf, players have the ability to chip with any club in the bag.
  • Slowly roll the trackball back and draw the golfer's club to the desired height. (Traditionally, a waist-level backswing will suffice)
  • In a smooth motion, roll the trackball forward to execute your chip.
Higher trajectory clubs (like a 9-iron, wedges or woods) will back up more when backspin is applied. While lower trajectory clubs (like a 2-iron or 1-iron) may check up and continue moving forward before backing up or stopping.
